Detecting if a file already exists in a flickr account

I'm using the API to bulk upload a photo library that is stored locally. I would like to be able to detect whether a particular image has already been uploaded. I was wondering if anyone has any insight into how to detect if a certain file already exists in the flickr account that I'm connecting to.

My thought was to use the search, but there does not appear to be a "filename" parameter that looks for the base filename.

You've asked this question on both the mailing list and the Flickr API group web site. The answer is "there isn't a way, unless you do it yourself". There is no "Filename" parameter that you can search on.

The only suggestion I can make is to calculate the md4 checksum of the files you are uploading and then either store than locally, or add it as a machine tag to the photo.

You can use FlickrSync for that.
